Creative Design Studio
Abstract 2D and 3D Design Compositions
(Al Hussein Technical University 2024/2025)
The Creative Design Studio course introduces students to the fundamental principles, orders, and elements of basic design, focusing on their application in both 2D and 3D abstract geometric compositions. Through hands-on projects and exercises, students will explore key principles such as balance, proportion, unity, contrast, hierarchy, movement and rhythm, and learn how to effectively integrate these elements into cohesive designs while adopting orders such as linear, radial, centralized, clustered and grid-based. The course emphasizes developing creative design skills, fostering an understanding of spatial design, and mastering the use of shapes, forms, colors, textures, and scale in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional contexts.
Note: The following content features a selection of works from four sections, two of which were co-supervised in collaboration with Dr. NEMEH RIHANI, Dean of the faculty, and Arch. MARIAM SALEH, a member of the department.

In the early stages of the project, students were introduced to an orthographic grid of 2x2 cm units, along with the designated design elements and their associated rules. They started by conceptualizing their ideas through sketches in their sketchbooks, then refined these sketches to align with the assigned grid and adhere to the specified elements, ensuring a structured, balanced, and proportional approach to their design development.

This project had a 6-week timeline and was carried out in four stages, with two milestone submissions. The first formative submission occurred after the 2D composition was developed and finalized. The second formative submission took place after the 3D composition was completed, incorporating feedback received from the first formative submission.

A selection of projects exhibited on the floor of the SBEE Deanship, showcasing outstanding student work.
