In 1986, Dr. Rasem Badran designed a housing complex for the employees of Al-Fuheis Cement Factory. Thirty-six years later, the site came to the attention of the project designer, Saeed Ayyan, a third-year architecture student. Intrigued by the design, Saeed made frequent visits over the next two years, observing its gradual deterioration. Driven by a sense of duty, he chose this site as his graduation project, aiming to preserve and revitalize it. With Arch. Hanna's supervision and through extensive research and documentation, the concept to restore the site to its agricultural origins emerged, thus the Grey to Green (G2G) notion was found.

The project competed against over 80 graduation projects from across Jordan and Palestine, standing out for its innovation and vision. It first qualified for the longlist of 30 exceptional projects, then advanced to the shortlist of just 9 finalists. The shortlisted entries were evaluated by an esteemed international jury panel, which ultimately awarded this project the prestigious first prize, recognizing its outstanding contribution to urban design and its forward-thinking approach to redefining public space.
